Tobi Oredein is an award-winning women's lifestyle journalist, media entrepreneur and international public speaker based in London, who focuses on race, feminism, beauty politics & popular culture.

Black Ballad

Black Ballad is a digital media & lifestyle  subscription platform, that was launched by Tobi in 2014, with the aim to tell the human experience through the eyes of black women living in Britain. The idea for Black Ballad came to Tobi after spending several years in various mainstream journalism offices and noticing the lack of black writers and stories that discussed the issues black women were facing.

Freelance Writing

Tobi has become a prominent voice in mainstream media by focusing on topics that include, but are not exclusive to race, feminism, beauty politics and pop culture. Tobi has been commissioned by Buzzfeed, British Glamour, Grazia, Elle UK, Fader, The Debrief, The Independent, The Pool, Stylist, Vice and others. She has also interviewed public figures such as Ryan Coogler, Ava Duvernay and Sir Trevor McDonald.

Speaking

As well as writing, Tobi is also a passionate verbal communicator and has spoken at Cambridge University, SOAS University, Geek Girl Meet Up Conference and many other events. Alongside traditional speaking roles, Tobi has guest lectured for Temple University students who came from Philadelphia on a study programme and was part of TedxTottenham 2017, exploring how the beauty industry has devalued black women.
